::Running linux on a mac mini:: [/tech/mac] (16:07)

This weekend, I made a failed attempt to get Linux running on my mac mini using Parallels for OS X. Beta 1 was a bit too beta, so installation failed.

Since I'm apparently soon to be a Redhat employee, being able to run Linux is even more interesting than it was before. Fortunately, Parallels quickly stepped up with beta 2, which fixed most of the issues with beta 1. After a quick reinstall, I was able to glide through the Fedora Core install.

Well, maybe not glide. The installation took quite a bit longer than I thought it should have. The VM in general seemed slower than I would have expected it to be. It may have been a configuration issue, or that might just be the expected speed. I'll have to time some things on both sides of the VM later to get a feel. However, speed is not a very high concern for me. The biggest concern is just having a functional Linux environment. And, that is something I've got. Very nice.

Right now, Parallels gets a big thumbs up. If you are looking for a virtualization solution for OS X, this is it. It works, and the price is perfect.
